I believe I have reached the point where I will just mess him up if I go further. That seems to indicate he's done.

Thank you to his family for giving me the opportunity to pay tribute to such a terrific guy while allowing me time to get it right.

Gordon Bernell - A Begining

OK, well, it's a begining. Oils, oy! The whole "it's still wet" thing is driving me crazy. Yeah, they're easier to blend, but much harder to cover layers. I will probably never underpaint an oil again.

On the up side, Gordon here seems happy enough. And... I found out why the original picture has that flat, boring, blue-grey background. Turns out the photo was taken in a booking room! It was an employee of the month picture for the corrections department and that was where they took it.
